DIOCESAN PEW COUNT THIS WEEKEND
Dear Parishioners,
Each year the Diocese conducts a “pew count” (the total number of people at Saturday and Sunday Masses in each parish). This happens this weekend, October 19-20.
The “pew count” is one way the Diocese examines the sacramental life and vitality of each parish. The numbers are given to the Diocesan Pastoral Planning Committee and discussed there. This is the committee that studies the vitality of our parishes and makes recommendations on whether parishes should be merged with others.
Like many others I continue to be concerned about the decline in Mass attendance, both a local and national trend. As Catholics we must reverse this trend, especially since it is God who calls us to make Sunday worship a priority in our lives.
I look forward to seeing you this and every weekend.
Sincerely,
Monsignor Tom Sullivan
